General visiting times at James Cook are 3pm to 8pm but some areas do allow open visiting such as the children’s ward and acute assessment.

Visitors at South Tees Hospitals

We do recognise there may be special circumstances that make these times difficult for someone and will always try to be as flexible as possible.

Visitors are asked to help our staff in the fight against the spread of infection by:

  • washing your hands with soap and water, or using the hand gel provided, when arriving and leaving a ward
  • avoid visiting at mealtimes unless you are actively involved in the patient’s care or at the request of a member of nursing staff
  • using the chairs provided in the wards and not sitting on patients’ beds
  • not smoking in our hospitals or in hospital grounds
  • not bringing flowers onto the wards
  • avoiding visiting if you have flu-like symptoms or if you have suffered¬†sickness and diarrhoea in the last 48 hours
  • trying to keep to a maximum of two visitors per bed at any time where at all possible
