Ward 4 is the renal inpatient ward at The James Cook University Hospital, with 24 beds including six side rooms and an acute haemodialysis bay.
We have 24 beds, including six side rooms, and an acute haemodialysis bay which can accommodate up to six haemodialysis stations.
We also take referrals from local district general hospitals, including North Tees University Hospital, Darlington Memorial Hospital and Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. These hospitals do not have on-site renal consultants so patients with kidney problems may sometimes need to be transferred to ward 4 at James Cook for specialist investigations and treatment.
The peritoneal dialysis team are based next to ward 4 and this service is covered by the ward 4 nursing staff outside of normal working hours.
Ward 4 is a student nurse training hub with close links to Teesside University and also supports the work experience and NVQ training department within the trust.
