Community radiology

Community hospitals offering radiology services across the South Tees area.

In addition to the radiology services at The James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, we also provide various services at the following community hospitals:

The community team includes – senior radiographers, radiology assistants and a community manager.

The radiology service receives x-ray referrals for all plain imaging from the local GPs, hospital consultants and nurse practitioners. Patients are often x-rayed on arrival or a timely appointment will be made based on each patient’s clinical need.

An ultrasound scan service is available at the One Life Centre, Linthorpe Road Middlesbrough and Redcar Primary Care Hospital which is led by radiology staff from The James Cook University Hospital.

The team is committed to providing an efficient and friendly service in a safe and clean environment.

Linked to the trust network by the filmless radiology Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), images taken at the four community sites can be viewed by radiologists at James Cook for a timely diagnosis.

Images are also available to the hospital wards and departments by using a normal PC via a web browser.

The team welcomes patients from all areas of South Tees who can choose where they would like to have their x-ray taken at a time convenient to their needs.

This patient friendly system has the advantage for patients as they are directly involved in choosing where and when their examination will be performed.

Patients referred for x-ray who would like to attend one of the community hospitals will need an x-ray referral from their GP or consultant.

They can then decide which location is preferable and contact the hospital direct to make an appointment at a suitable time and date.

Please note that the departments close over the lunchtime period.
