The postgraduate team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have won a prestigious PACES Champions award.
The team is based at The James Cook University Hospital and is under the leadership of Mahir Hamad and Zoe Holland who organised the PACES examination, with the support of Louise Campbell, the head of medical education and the technical and facilities team.
James Cook has been involved in post-graduate clinical examinations on behalf of the Royal College of Physicians for more than 30 years. The exam has since been renamed Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills (PACES).
The PACES Champions award was created by the Federation of the Royal Colleges (London, Glasgow and Edinburgh) to honour individuals and teams for their commitment to PACES.
The following criterion was used to judge the nominations:
- Overall contribution to PACES
- Longstanding dedication to PACES
- Contribution as a team player
- Positive attitude in supporting PACES
- Supporting PACES in challenging circumstances

The official awards ceremony will be held on 18 March 2025.
