Occupational Therapy
Material: Custom made – Neoprene.
Purpose: To support and stabilise the finger joints and to provide pain relief during activities allowing some flexibility of movement.
Wearing instructions
To be worn only during the day as and when required to carry out activities of daily living. Do not wear continuously (maximum of 1 hour). Remove regularly when resting and for lighter activities.
Care of your splint
Hand wash in warm, soapy water and allow to dry. Do not tumble dry.
Please note: If you wear the splints whilst driving you must inform your insurer and the DVLA.
Please check for:
- Redness, soreness or breakdown of skin.
- Increase in pain or discomfort or worsening of symptoms.
- No improvement in condition after wearing for different activities.
- Allergic reaction such as raised, itchy, red rash.
In the event of any of the above, discontinue wearing and contact the therapist on the details below.
How do I keep my muscles strong?
If you have been given exercises for your thumb or fingers run through these each time you take your splints off. This helps to reduce the risk of stiffness and weakness.
