Please read the following information and should you have any concerns or questions please contact the specialist nurse team on the number below.

Most people recover quickly following an electrophysiology and ablation procedure and feel well enough to carry out normal activities the following day.
However, you should avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 1 to 2 weeks afterwards. This is due to the very small incision or puncture site to your groin where your procedure has taken place.
You may expect a small amount of bruising to the puncture site in your groin and this will be checked prior to discharge from hospital. Once you are discharged home you need to observe your groin site for 1 to 2 weeks to ensure that the area remains soft to touch with no swelling, tenderness or major bruising.
Important
Should you experience any worsening tenderness, bruising that is not settling or should a swelling or hard lump appear (bigger than a pea) around your groin site you are advised to contact the specialist nurse team or out of hours ward 29 on the numbers below for further advice.
We prefer to review these problems here at James Cook rather than leave them to general practitioners or other doctors who don’t perform these procedures.
You should also be aware that should you develop a cough, hoarseness in your voice, shortness of breath, indigestion, a chest infection or chest pain you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.
Hospital admission is rare following electrophysiology studies and ablation however should you develop any of these symptoms or require hospital admission it is important that you or a relative also inform your consultant cardiologist at James Cook University Hospital.
