At The James Cook University site there are 16 inpatient theatres plus three surgical day unit theatres.
In addition there is a lithotripsy suite. Within the complex there are four recovery areas to compliment main theatres, the day unit and the paediatric day unit. The site also encompasses a dedicated paediatric day unit facility.
At the Friarage Hospital there are five in patient theatres plus 1 day unit theatre and a minor ops room with dedicated recovery bays within the two areas.
The directorate also offers support to obstetrics and ophthalmology theatres.

- Neurosurgery
- Ophthalmology
- Community dentistry
- Adult mental health
- Radiology
There is also provision for dedicated emergency and trauma theatres within the complex.
