The cardiothoracic intensive care unit has 12 beds to care for patients who have undergone cardiothoracic surgery, critically ill cardiology patients and post cardiac arrest patients.
The patients are managed by a team of nine cardiothoracic anaesthetists.
They are supported by five fully trained advanced critical care practitioners and with an additional three trainees.
The current national lead for advanced critical care practitioners is Dr Simon Gardner one of our consultant cardiothoracic anaesthetists.
We also provide training in cardiothoracic intensive care medicine for advanced intensive care medicine trainees in the Northern region.
