We know that coping with diabetes isn’t always easy. But we’re here to help you.
We’re part of a teaching hospital with state-of-the-art facilities and an award-winning team consisting of specialist doctors, specialist nurses, dieticians, a psychologist and support workers.
Our service helps children and young people (up to 18 years) with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and maturity onset diabetes in the young.
We support children and young people with multiple daily insulin injections
We are a regional centre for insulin pump therapy (a more flexible alternative to injections for some)
We run a children’s clinic, adolescent clinic, transition clinic, dietetic clinic and a high HbA1c clinic.
We provide integrated specialist psychological support to all young people.
We provide a range of activities to enable children and young people with diabetes to meet their peers, these include: an annual residential holiday to Peat Rigg (Yorkshire Moors), a sports day and a fun day for children under seven years old.
Above all, we’re here to deliver a high quality diabetes service that aims to maximise the health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families.
